Archaeological discoveries show that it was inhabited from the Copper age, and played a major role during the mycean civilization. Argos, Mycenae and Tirinth were the three largest centers in Argolis. Mythology tells that two heroes, Perseus and Hercules, are from Argos.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large wp-image-958\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Th\u00e9\u00e2tre-d\u00c9pidaure-en-Argolide-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Epidaurus Ancient Theatre, Argolis, Greece\" class=\"wp-image-4190\"\/><figcaption>Epidaurus Ancient Theatre, Argolis, Greece<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span>In the region of Argolis there are several archaeological sites, like Mycenae, the ancient Tiryns, the temple of Heraion (dedicated to the goddess Hera), the theater of Epidaurus. Near Mycenae is Nafplion, one of the most beautiful cities in Greece, which was the first capital of modern Greece.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large wp-image-964\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Une-rue-charact\u00e9ristique-\u00e0-Nauplie-en-Argolide-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"A characteristic street in Nafplio, Argolis\" class=\"wp-image-4186\"\/><figcaption>A characteristic street in Nafplio, Argolis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span>Argolis is famous in Greece for its excellent citrus fruits, of which it is one of the greatest producers.
