{"id":1310,"date":"2018-10-29T23:32:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T22:32:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/periohi-messinia\/"},"modified":"2020-09-12T11:27:12","modified_gmt":"2020-09-12T09:27:12","slug":"area-messinia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/en\/area-messinia\/","title":{"rendered":"Messinia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Messinia (in modern Greek: \u039c\u03b5\u03c3\u03c3\u03b7\u03bd\u03af\u03b1) is a region of South-West Peloponnese whose capital is Kalamata, known throughout the world for its famous&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/esti\/olives-kalamata-pdo-esti-300g-90\">olives<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is separated on the east by Mount Taygetus from the region of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/en\/area-laconia\/\">Laconia<\/a>, south by the Mediterranean Sea and north by Mount Tetrasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the west of Messinia opens the bay of Pylos where took place the battle of Navarino in 1827, the last of the great naval battles of the sailing navy. In Pylos is also Nestor Palace, among the best preserved Mycenaean palaces, and a few kilometers away from the Gialova region, protected under Natura 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large wp-image-823\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Palais-de-Nestor-en-Mess\u00e9nie-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"The Palace of Nestor in Mesinia, Peloponese\" class=\"wp-image-4201\"\/><figcaption>The Palace of Nestor in Mesinia, Peloponese<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Messinia we can find also Voidokilia, the most famous beach in Peloponnese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-806 size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Voidokoilia-plage-en-Peloponn\u00e8se-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"View of Voidokilia beach in the Peloponnese region of Greece, from the Palaiokastro\" class=\"wp-image-4204\"\/><figcaption>View of Voidokilia beach in the Peloponnese region of Greece, from the Palaiokastro<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span>Finally, it is the region that includes most of the olive groves of Peloponnese. The most famous variety of olives produced in Messinia is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/fr\/esti\/olives-kalamata-bio-300g-91\">Kalamata olive<\/a>, which is purple and very
