She is known for her chasms and exotic beaches!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main cities are Argostoli (the capital), Lixouri and Sami (the port that connects Patras and Ithaca).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first traces of human presence date back to the Paleolithic period. Archaeologists have found stone tools in Fiskardo, Skala and Poros dating back 50,000 BC. They also found traces dating back to the Mycenaean period. It was mentioned by Homer in the Iliad and the Odyssey, and also by Herodotus and Thucydides. The island was part of the Byzantine Empire, then under the occupation of the Ottomans, then the Venetians and finally the French until it was again attached to Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kefalonia&#8217;s resources come from tourism, <a href=\"https:\/\/winesofgreece.org\/varieties\/robola\/\">robola<\/a> wine, peach, olive oil, quince and sweet treats (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/voskopoula\/sesame-bar-with-honey-pasteli-120g-138\">pasteli,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/voskopoula\/mantola-classic-140g-136\">mandola<\/a> (roasted almonds), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/voskopoula\/mantola-honey-140g-137\">mandola honey<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/voskopoula\/comfeto-150g-139\">comfeto<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/en\/voskopoula\/nougat-with-almonds-120g-140\">nougat with almonds<\/a> &#8230; ) inherited from the Venetian era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Une-plage-sur-l\u00eele-ionienne-de-C\u00e9phalonie-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"La plage Myrtos sur l'\u00eele ionienne de C\u00e9phalonie\" class=\"wp-image-4461\"\/><figcaption>La plage Myrtos sur l&#8217;\u00eele ionienne de C\u00e9phalonie<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poupadou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/La-plage-Myrtos-sur-l\u00eele-de-C\u00e9phalonie-vue-panoramique-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"La plage Myrtos sur l'\u00eele de C\u00e9phalonie -
