Thassos is an island of the North Aegean across the coast of Eastern Macedonia. Herodotus<\/a> believed that the island took his name after Thassos, the head of the Phoenician colonies. The capital of the island is Limenas which is often confused with the second town called Limenaria. Its coastline is about 115 kilometres long and is considered one of the greenest islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thassos discovered thanks to one of the many erotic adventures of Zeus. Zeus<\/a> kidnapped Europe<\/a>, the daughter of the Phoenicians king, Agenor. Agenor asked from his sons Phoenix, Cadmus, Cilix and his grandson Thassus to look for her and find her. Thassus while searching for Europe, found himself on the island for a while and was fascinated by its beauties. But because he could not return home without Europe, he settled on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike other Greek islands, there is plenty of black pine, Thassian pine and fir on the island. Combined with the color of the sea and the beaches, it is an ideal holiday island. It has many small villages such as Saint George, Alyki, Theologos for example worth visiting. It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum of Thassos<\/a> where you will see a 3.5 meter kouros with 7th century BC collections. until the 7th century AD. During the summer you can attend various events thanks to the Philippi-Thassos Festival<\/a>. Every year there are theatrical performances of ancient drama, comedy, concerts as well as exhibitions of painting and many traditional events culminating in the Thassian wedding in the village of Theologos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
