The linden tree has been known since antiquity for its wood, honey and the healing properties of its decoction. There are reports from Theophrastus, Pliny and Virgil, while Dioscorides pointed out that the decoction of its leaves cured snake bites.
In Greece we find mainly three species (Tilia europaea, tomentosa and cordata) that bloom at the end of May. Its flowers and leaves are collected in June.
