Baked Biftekia with potatoes and lemon

Tasted all over Greece, biftekia are a little bit like the Greek equivalent of burger or minced beef, but also tasty thanks to a preparation of spice meat, enhanced by the freshness of lemon juice.

Ingredients for biftekia

  • 1 kg minced meat (only beef or a mixture of beef and pork)
  • 2 grated onions
  • 2 grated tomatoes
  • 3 large slices of bread from the day before soaked in water
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Ingredients for baked potatoes

  • 8 potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 2 lemons (for the juice)
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 cups water
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Utensils

  • 1 peeler
  • 2 bowls
  • 1 baking dish
  • aluminium foil
  • 1 grater

Making

Preparation of potatoes

Peel the potatoes, cut them into quarters or thick slices and place them in a bowl.

Add the mustard, oregano, salt, pepper, olive oil, lemon juice and mix well so that the potatoes are well covered.

Pour the contents of the bowl into a dish that will go to the oven, and add the water. Cover with foil and bake for one hour at 200 ° C (thermostat 6)

Put the minced meat in a bowl. Grate the onions and tomatoes above the bowl to add the tomato juice.

Drain the bread, cut it into small pieces and put in the minced meat. Add the oregano, pepper, salt, vinegar and olive oil, and mix well.

Tip

If the mixture is too hard, add a little water. If it is too liquid, add some wet bread, grated rusks or oatmeal.

Make 10 to 12 biftekia by giving them a big flattened dumpling with your hands, and put them on the already cooked potatoes. Continue cooking for 30 minutes by removing the foil.

Note

Cooking instructions for oven temperature refer to cooking with resistors. If you use a convection oven, lower the temperature by 20 degrees Celsius and reduce the cooking time by 10 minutes.
