Lamb souvlaki skewers

Lamb souvlaki skewers either served with rice or french fries or even as a more gourmet souvlaki is a very popular dish in Greece !

In general, lamb is a type of meat that is quite popular in Greece, and it is still linked to Christmas or Easter holidays and important days, such as Sunday lunch with the whole family. For this reason, there are several dishes, such as youvetsi or moussaka for example, that when prepared with lamb, they are considered more festive !

  • 8 metal skewers
  • charcoal for the barbecue or electric barbecue or grill pan

Making

To start with, cut the lamb leg into cubes of about 2.5 cm.

To continue with, put the pieces on metal skewers.

Pour in a large dish the extra virgin olive oil and add 4 tablespoons of lemon juice. Then, add salt, freshly ground pepper and organic thyme and mix well.

Let the lamb souvlaki skewers sit for about 1 hour in olive oil, turning them from time to time.

Grill them on charcoal or electric barbecue or grill pan by turning them.

You can serve them as skewers or remove the meat from them and serve with greek salad, tzatziki and either pilaf or french fries (where you can add organic oregano) as a main dish.

Otherwise, you can serve them as souvlakia with pita for souvlakia, tzatziki, tomatoes and onions!

Depending on the size of the pieces, this recipe can make 8-10 lamb souvlaki skewers.
