Chickpeas are legumes with great nutritional value and are a representative sample of the greek mediterranean diet.

They are rich in protein, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins and vitamin K. They also have a low glycemic index, i.e. while they are rich in carbohydrates, they do not raise blood sugar. They also contain a lot of fibre like gigantes.

Greek cuisine includes various dishes with these legumes such as chickpeas lemon soup, chickpeas with rice, "revithada" which is the traditional dish of Sifnos, salad with chickpeas, braised chickpeas, chickpeas balls.
